ContractorCheck Tampa Bay

About ContractorCheck Tampa Bay

A free resource for Tampa Bay residents to research contractors before hiring.

What is ContractorCheck?

ContractorCheck Tampa Bay lets you look up any Florida-licensed contractor to see their license status, expiration date, and any user-submitted reports of problems. Our goal is to give homeowners and property managers the same information that used to require hours of digging through state databases and review sites.

Every contractor profile is built from official Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) data, updated weekly. User reports are reviewed before publication.

How it works

Search by name, license number, or phone

Type a contractor's name (e.g. “John Smith”), their Florida license number (e.g. “CBC1234567”), or phone number to find their profile.

Check their license

See whether their Florida license is active or expired, what type of work they're licensed for, and when it expires. Data comes directly from the state DBPR.

Read and submit reports

See moderated firsthand accounts from other customers. If you've had an experience — good or bad — with a contractor, you can submit a report after creating a free account.

Contractors can claim their profile

Licensed contractors can claim their profile to post official responses to reports and keep their contact information up to date.

Where the data comes from

Florida DBPR License Database

All contractor profiles and license records are sourced from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's public licensing database. This data is refreshed every Monday. It covers all state-licensed construction contractors including general contractors, roofers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors, and more.

User-submitted reports

Reports are submitted by registered users describing their firsthand experience. Every report is reviewed by a moderator before it is published. Reports must describe a genuine experience and must not contain personal attacks, profanity, or unverifiable claims.

Public records

Code enforcement cases, liens, civil court filings, and other public records may be added by our team from county and state sources.

Limitations and disclaimers

User reports reflect individual experiences and are not independently verified. We do not take a position on the accuracy of any report.

License data is updated weekly but may not reflect same-day changes. Always verify license status directly with the Florida DBPR before hiring.

ContractorCheck Tampa Bay covers Florida state-licensed contractors. Local or county licenses, specialty certifications, and unlicensed trades are not included.
